Hello, charmingpumpkin.com!<br />
<img alt="OwlMovingImage" height="160" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3782/9577586991_33095bac48_z.jpg" width="640" /><br />
<br />
Well, hello there, stranger! I've got some news! Charming Pumpkin is moving to a new domain. I've been thinking about moving CP for quite some time, but only recently did I really decide to buckle down and make it happen. I tend to drag my heels that way. Given that I am about to embark on a new adventure, though, I felt like an accompanying move to a new domain would be timely and appropriate. So, to those of you who are still around after my very lengthy hiatus, you can now find me blogging at <a href="http://www.blogger.com/charmingpumpkin.com">charmingpumpkin.com</a>. At least for now, the format will look much the same as it did here: outfit posts, the occasional Polyvore set to justify another twirly dress, you know, the usual. So, a quick recap:<br />
<br />
1) Charming pumpkin is moving to <a href="http://charmingpumpkin.com/">charmingpumpkin.com!</a> Hooray!<br />
2) I'm getting ready to start a new adventure (spoiler: it involves eleven year olds)!<br />
3) The inaugural post will go up next Wednesday morning, so be sure to check it out!<br />
4) You're all really awesome, I've missed you, and I really, really hope you'll come over to Charming Pumpkin and say hello!<br />
5) !!!!!! (Because clearly this post needs more exclamation points! ... !!!)! Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08936197579730503248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6415586068037958251.post-78466801759632222522013-04-13T09:37:00.000-07:002013-04-13T09:39:10.855-07:00Polyvore Remix: Colima Maxi SkirtI'm really fortunate to have the most wonderfully patient husband in the world. He doesn't judge me too harshly for leaving half-full mugs of coffee sitting around the house (that's right... half-full... because I'm an optimist). He doesn't mind that my idea of cooking a meal involves pulling a bowl out of the cupboard, and filling it with cereal. He doesn't even mind the fact that I have a long and distinguished reputation as a plant killer, despite the fact that he loves gardening. And, strictly speaking, he doesn't mind the fact that I have enough clothes to adequately outfit a relatively small, very feminine army. He does, however, think it's hilarious to tease me mercilessly when my clothes are literally spilling out of the closet. In my defense, it isn't because the closets are <i>that</i> full. It's mostly because I'm usually running late, so I just sort of... shove things in the closet, close the doors quickly so things don't spill out, and sprint for the door. (Does it sound like I'm rationalizing? I'm really not. Promise.)<br />
<br />
Because I like to limit the amount of ammo Mr. CP. has at any given moment, I've been trying to be a more discerning customer as I add a few new Spring pieces to my closet. Unless I can think of at least three ways to style an item using things I already own, the article of clothing in question doesn't come home with me. As soon as I saw the <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/clothes-skirts/26523803.jsp">Colima Maxi Skirt</a> on Anthropologie's website, I hopped on over to Polyvore and started styling away. I came up with five -- count 'em, FIVE! -- styling options based around items I already have in my closet. I may use that Anthro gift card that's been gathering dust to pick up this lovely skirt now that I can rationalize the purchase. Technology is a wonderfully useful psychological tool, isn't it?<br />

Dress: Bicycle Print Sash Waist Dress, c/o eShakti (<a href="http://www.eshakti.com/Product/CL0026538/Bicycle-print-sash-waist-dress">here</a>)<br />
Denim Jacket: JC Penney (not available online)<br />
Shoes: Target<br />
Hair scarf: Vintage <br />
<br />
I've written a poem in honor of this beeeeeeautiful dress that eShakti sent me for review:<br />
<br />
Roses are red,<br />
Violets are blue,<br />
This bicycle print dress,<br />
Is a dream come true!<br />
<br />
No, seriously. This dress is <i>amazing</i>. The fabric is soft, the skirt is full, and... drum roll please... the dress has <i>pockets</i>. I have a place to keep all my secrets now, you guys.<br />
<br />
For those of you who don't know anything about <a href="http://eshakti.com/">eShakti</a>, allow me to blow your mind. All of their designs comes in sizes 0 to 36. And if you're like me, and you fall between sizes, you don't need to worry; anything on the site can be custom made to your exact measurements for a mere $7.50. Even better, eShakti has been expanding their custom offerings. Depending upon the item, you can alter the neckline, the length of the sleeves, and, in the case of some of their strapless dresses, you can opt to have straps added. My personal favorite service that eShakti offers: you can choose to have the length of almost every dress altered to suit your tastes. From short, to knee length, to calf length, you can alter items to flatter your body type and make you feel good about yourself.<br />
<br />
I opted to have my new bicycle dress altered so that it was both sleeveless, and lower cut... shocking, given that I have the sensibilities of a Victorian spinster. But because the dress was made to fit my body, I figured I didn't have too much to worry about. I was right. The dress falls perfectly. The waist sits where it's supposed to, the skirt flairs in a really feminine way. I think it's safe to say this dress is going to be popping up constantly on the blog.<br />
<br />
I may or may not have just purchased <a href="http://www.eshakti.com/Product/CL0025634/High-stepping-crepe-skirt">this skirt</a>. Don't tell Mr. CP. I'm currently in the process of weeding old items out of my closet. Out with the old, in with the new, I always say, but not everyone can be as enlightened as I am, coughcoughMr.CPcoughcough.<br />
<br />

<i><b>*eShakti was kind enough to send me this item free of charge. This
in no way affected my opinion of the item or the company. I'm an
opinionated beast of a woman, so you can be sure that if I hadn't liked
the item and/or company I would have said so. For serious.</b></i> Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08936197579730503248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6415586068037958251.post-78809820012175563352013-03-19T16:19:00.000-07:002013-03-20T19:05:00.732-07:00Who got a fringe?<br />

When I woke up the morning I wore this outfit and looked out the window, I was absolutely convinced spring had officially arrived. I ran to the back door, pulled it open, stepped outside... and nearly froze to death. The only way I could think of to cope with the absolute desolation I felt over the 20 degree weather was to throw on this beautiful skirt that Mr. CP got me as a wedding gift. It may not have been entirely appropriate for the weather, but it did manage to temporarily alleviate my depression over the too-cool temperature.<br />
<br />
Incidentally, this skirt met one of my other requirements: it has a stretchy waistband. Go stretchy, or go home, I say!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08936197579730503248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6415586068037958251.post-37431618287628386172013-03-06T16:23:00.000-08:002013-03-06T16:23:55.988-08:00Our wedding day! Hooray!We finally received our wedding photos in the mail, and I couldn't wait to share them with you! For those of you who don't know -- or need a refresher! -- Mr. CP and I got married in beautiful Maui, Hawaii on February 6th. It was a wonderfully special day full of laughter, conch shells, and beachy goodness. <br />
<br />
The day didn't go exactly as planned. We woke up to rain, wind, and surprisingly chilly weather. However, having lived in Seattle for years, Mr. CP and I weren't about to let a little rain stop us from getting married on the beach. So what if my hair got wet? I'd be a frizzy bride! So what if it was shockingly cold? I'd be my something blue! Come hell or high water, we were getting married on that beach at sunset.<br />
<br />
I hadn't planned on wearing a cardigan for the ceremony. Thankfully, I had packed this teal beauty just in case the evenings got chilly. So, I threw it on over my dress, buttoned on the bug brooches that Mr. CP got me for Christmas, and off I went to get married! To be honest, I'm thankful for the twist of fate that forced me to don one of my trademark cardigans for our wedding. I felt like me in a way I don't think I would have had I just worn a plain old strapless dress. <br />
<br />
A few details about what I wore:<br />

Life has been a bit chaotic these past months. Between moving, going back to school (it's a loooooong story that centers on my oft-mentioned poor life choice of going to graduate school), planning a wedding, and working, my poor little blog fell to the wayside. Life is slowly starting to approximate some semblance of equilibrium, though, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get back in the habit of posting on here regularly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I thought a fun way to return to the blogosphere would be to share some of our engagement photos! Mr. CP and I moved back to Colorado, my home state, over the summer, where my beautifully talented childhood friend <a href="http://www.chelseasattic.com/">Chelsea</a> is a photographer. Our engagement photos were, therefore, doubly meaningful: they provided us the opportunity to capture our general goofiness in the presence of one of my oldest friends. It also just so happens that Chelsea is offensively talented. Just look at these photos!<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I've been enjoying our new home so much that I've found myself taking an obnoxious number of photographs. Given that Mr. CP loathes having his photograph taken, I'm fairly certain he may rethink this whole marriage thing if I continue down my current path. Only kidding, only kidding. Ish. I've always been a bit of a dabbler when it comes to hobbies and crafty pursuits. I'm fickle that way. So, I suppose it was only a matter of time before I decided to try my hand at taking photographs. Like any new skill, it requires patience (oh gawd, does it require patience!), and practice. In unpacking our belongings, I've came to the conclusion that there are almost no photos of us. In point of fact, I can count on two hands the number of photographs of Mr. CP and I, which is in large part what inspired me to start taking more photographs.<br />
<br />
Now that I'm settling in, I'll be able to post with greater frequency. What have I missed while I was away? What have you all been up to?</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08936197579730503248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6415586068037958251.post-73506770575672144762012-07-18T10:00:00.001-07:002012-07-18T11:01:49.945-07:00Favorite Quote<div style="text-align: center;">

I've always loved this quote. It's a reminder to treat everyone, even the cruel and hateful, with kindness and understanding. <div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I'll be back later this week with an outfit post. Now that Mr. CP and I are starting to settle into our new home, I've been steadily building up a backlog of outfit photos. Theoretically, this means I won't be a sucky, absentee blogger anymore. Happy boogie!</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Inspired by Katha and several other bloggers, I've decided to start doing weekly Instagram collage posts every Monday. I've been snapping an obscene amount of photos with my phone lately -- in fact, I'm planning a DIY home decor project that makes use of some of my favorite Instagram photos once I receive the prints in the mail.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Mr. CP and I had a date day at the zoo this weekend. What did you do?</div>

Somehow, I've managed to stick to my self-imposed shopping ban in the lead-up to the big move. I haven't ordered the Dorothy Perkins polka dot dress that I mentioned in my last post. I haven't indulged in the nearby sidewalk sales, or taken advantage of all the ridiculous sales going on in department stores. But this -- THIS! -- is seriously tempting<br />
<br />
I don't own any pencil dresses because, to be frank, I haven't found any that don't make me look like an overstuffed sausage. I tried on the Anthro dress below, but it was way too tight, and also way out of my price range. The style itself had the potential to be incredibly flattering, but the size and price issues made it a big no go. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a much cheaper alternative in a size that would actually fit. I give you the dupe to end all dupes!<br />

<span style="font-size: small;">I have a love/hate relationship with Kate Spade. I love the unexpected mash up of colors, patterns, and classic silhouettes. I hate the price tag, and the fact that never, at any point in my life, will I be able to squeeze into any of her items. Searching the internet, I was absolutely astonished by the fact that no one had bothered to put together Kate Spade inspired looks a) for cheaper and b) for us curvier gals. Enter: ME!!!! (Just imagine that I'm making that face that Elle Woods makes when she finds out she got the internship at Harvard in Legally Blonde).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Anyway, I found several Kate Spade looks that I absolutely love. Despite the fact that the movers are coming in exactly, ahem, three days, and there's still a substantial amount of packing left to do (i.e. the office, and all the cupboards in the kitchen), I've decided that a better use of my time is putting together outfits based on a few of the cutest Kate Spade looks I found. Behold, look #1!!!!!</span></div>

Dress: c/o maurices* (<a href="http://www.maurices.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12685288">here</a>)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When the kind folks over at maurices offered to send me an item to review, my mind immediately jumped to dresses. I mean, come on, it's me, right? Dresses and I are like PB&J, Sonny and Cher, Caesar and Brutus (pre-horrible, backstabbing betrayal). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I saw this dress on the maurices website, I swooned. I looooove lace <i>anything</i>, after all. I figured from the photograph on maurices' site that I would love it, but I didn't realize just how beautiful this dress would be. The photos don't do it justice. Fully lined, and made with a beautiful leaf-patterned lace, it's enough to make me feel ever so slightly like a modern day princess. I typically feel like I'm just sort of galumphing around, but this dress accomplished something unexpected. It made me feel like I was gracefully floating around. So what if I tripped over absolutely nothing on the sidewalk? I was wearing this dress, which made my stumble look swan-like and graceful! So what if I tried to drink out of a straw, and missed my mouth? I did it with poise and sophistication! That's the power of a great dress, folks. And this, this is a great dress.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those of you who are unfamiliar with maurices, allow me to introduce you. Based in Minnesota, maurices caters to the "savvy fashion conscious customer with a twenty-something attitude." My favorite thing about maurices: they have both a straight-sized and a plus sized line. Their clothes range from a size 0 to a size 26, with their plus size line in particular ranging from a size 0 (which, for reference's sake, is what I ordered) to a size 4. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My experience with maurices was absolutely wonderful. The dress is sturdy and well-made, and everyone I corresponded with was friendly and helpful. I was a bit concerned that the dress may not arrive before moving day, but it shipped really quickly. Now, of course, I've been trolling their site looking for other, equally adorable items. These beauties from maurices' plus size line have been added to my already lengthy wish list:</div>

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to keep that particular promise.<br />
<br />
Our landlord decided to stop by yesterday morning, and inform us that in addition to showing the house to prospective renters while we're out of town from June 1 to June 8, he's also having contractors come in to do some large-scale renovations on the house. While we expected the former, we did not expect the latter. We also didn't expect him to inform us in no uncertain terms that pretty much everything in the house needs to be packed up by next Friday, and that all the furniture needs to be moved into the basement. I could throw a giant hissy fit over the fact that he only gave us a week's notice, but there's really no point. I'm sure he's just as stressed out as we are. Anyway, unfortunately, this means that the blog is going to be quiet for at least the next week while Mr. CP and I frantically try to get everything packed up.<br />
<br />
I'll still be around reading blogs, tweeting, and probably posting on here occasionally, too. I'm not completely disappearing. Charming Pumpkin is just going to be a bit quiet for a while. <3!<br />

I ultimately settled on this eyeleted skirt, an adorable little number from The Webster for Target collection.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
The weather has turned cold and rainy again here, but I categorically refused to wear tights and/or boots. So, I just pretended that it was sunny, and wore the skirt bare-legged with flats.</div>

Mr. CP and I will be moving half way across the country in exactly one month. Eek! In the throes of a massive panic attack, I packed up a large chunk of my closet a couple days ago, including all but a few of my sweaters, which makes this cold snap more unpleasant than it might otherwise be. Oh, well! If perception really does shape reality as some philosophers would have us believe, I'll just continue thinking warm thoughts. I mean, <i>thinking</i> it's warm is the same as it actually <i>being</i> warm, right? Right?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The move really snuck up on us, and now we're faced with what seems to be an insurmountable heap of crap to pack up. I've been using this as an opportunity to get rid of a lot of things we don't use anymore, but it doesn't seem to be making much difference. Mr. CP and I have been taking turns reassuring each other that everything will get done. Thankfully, we've managed to avoid joint freak outs, and I'm hoping that pattern will continue until after we're moved. Fingers crossed!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We will be flying the remaining two cats to stay with Mama and Papa CP in about a week and a half. Once we get back, we'll have a whopping 9 days to get everything packed up before we get on the road. We're currently trying to think of ways to turn packing into a game, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I got home from Anthropologie the other day -- with this cardigan in tow! Sale score FTW! -- I recounted for Mr. CP my uber-bizarre conversation with Boob Job Lady that I talked about in my last post (<a href="http://charmingpumpkin.blogspot.com/2012/05/blue-dress-outfit-2.html">here</a>). It ended up turning into a fairly lengthy conversation about Mr. CP's and my respective stances on plastic surgery. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My position is quite simple: your body, your life. I think everyone has a right to feel beautiful, and if that means a nip, a tuck, a lift, a pull, and a few injections, then so be it. For my part, I don't like the idea of elective cosmetic surgery. It gives me the willies. Aside from my father, I avoid physicians like the plague. It's best for all parties involved, you see.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In general, I have a fairly laissez-faire attitude towards life (there are a few areas where this doesn't apply... toilet paper, for example, should always roll <i>down</i> on the roll, not<i> up</i>. Yeesh!). So, my philosophy about plastic surgery is pretty much identical to my philosophy about life (excepting toilet paper, apparently): you do your thing, I'll do mine.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

On a completely unrelated note, if ever the Fates conspired to thrust me into a position of power as a benevolent dictator, I would commission a statue to be built immortalizing <i>this</i> expression. I think it says, "Peons, bow before me!" and "But I still love and respect you and your peasant ways!" all at the same time. Behold: Benevolent Dictatoress Kelsey. Ahem. Yes, that's a real word <i>and</i> a real title. Why do you ask? Are you challenging my authority!? Are you?!?!</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08936197579730503248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6415586068037958251.post-20939773626988853952012-05-16T09:18:00.000-07:002012-06-11T18:37:10.105-07:00Blue Dress #2: Spring Has Sprung<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I naively assumed that the Swirling Vortex of Weirdness that has surrounded me for most of my adult life had finally, at long last, dissipated. In my idealism, I assumed that whatever deity I had managed to royally piss off had deigned, in his or her infinite wisdom, to forgive any and all transgressions I had committed. It turns out that The Vortex (yes, capital 'T,' capital 'V') didn't go away. Nope. It was just building up a back log of weirdness to gleefully hurl at me at a moment of its choosing. Apparently, it chose yesterday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Where to begin... I suppose the best place is with the least bizarre incident. It is very rarely windy here in Seattle. It wasn't unusual, then, that it wasn't windy in the slightest when I stepped outside yesterday morning. It wasn't windy while I walked to the car, or when I got out to walk to the ATM. But, conveniently, there was a single very large burst of wind as I was walking down the sidewalk along a very busy street. And that particular burst of wind was strong enough that it lifted my skirt up around my head. Naturally, I shrieked, "The fuck!?" very shrilly. Which wouldn't have been a problem if I hadn't pulled my skirt back down to the wide-eyed stares of an entire preschool troop walking to who knows where with their teachers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As a balm for my humiliation, I decided to head to Anthropologie to check out the semi-annual tag sale that started today. There I was, browsing the racks of items, when a woman came up to me and asked me who did my boob job. Um, 'scuse me? I don't even... What?! I toyed around with the idea of shrieking, "They came this way! Lay off!" But instead, I did what I do best: laughed awkwardly, and made an inappropriate joke. My exact response: "Mother Nature is my plastic surgeon. Who's yours?" She rolled her eyes, and looked at me disbelievingly. I'm choosing to take her question as a compliment. If I interpret it the way my brain is fighting to -- as a creepy, inappropriate query -- I run the risk of becoming even more disillusioned with my fellow human beings than I already am. So... compliment it is!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finally made my way home to two very hyper cats (kitty number three is currently vacationing with her grandparents until we get moved next month). Anyway, Gabe (aka Boy Cat) and Luna (aka Fish) were chasing each other around the house like cats are wont to do. Fish was <i>very</i> naughty, and hopped up on the toilet seat, and before I could make my way to the bathroom to shoo her off, Boy Cat pushed her in. The toilet, that is. Fish fell in the toilet. Thankfully, I had just cleaned it this morning... but still. It's a toilet. Blech. So, I got to give Fish a bath today. Without the full body armor that such a chore typically demands. It was... interesting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyhoodle, I'm hoping I'm all paid up on weirdness for a while. Fingers crossed.</div>

That means you'll be getting an OOTD post three days this week, AND three days next week. I've been slacking on posting outfits, so I'm hoping this will help me get back into the swing of things. First up: this dress. Because I love it. It makes my heart soar. And it feels like jammies. And it's blue. And it lends itself to primary-color-crayon hued outfits like this one.</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I wore this outfit to run errands downtown yesterday, which turned out to be quite an adventure. You see, it was May 1, so naturally there was a very large group of people protesting Capitalism (because, frankly, that's what just about every protest boils down to, but don't even get me started). The police were out in full force -- some mounted on horseback, a large number in full riot gear, some on bicycles. Anyway, there I was minding my own business when all of the sudden I heard glass windows shattering across the street. Apparently some of the protestors got reeeeally angry about The Man, and decided that the best way to get back at him was to break stuff. Naturally. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For anyone who ever doubted that my survival instincts have been bred out of me: I present to you exhibit A. Most people around me started scattering, running into stores to avoid the rioters. I, stupidly, stood there ruminating on the psychology and sociology of rioting like a complete dumbass (and also like a giant nerd, dur). When common sense eventually set in, I had two thoughts. My first thought centered around this outfit. Everyone around me was wearing varying shades of black, so in a moment of absolute paranoia, I envisioned the rioters picking a victim from the crowd to defenestrate (great word, btw). Naturally, I concluded that they would pick me because of my vibrant green dress. My second thought was to stop being a jackass, and duck into a store like everyone else around me. Which I did. For anyone who ever doubted that my survival instincts have been bred out of me: I present to you exhibit A. At any rate, my foray into Nordstrom turned out to be a fruitful trip. I found a cardigan in the same shade as this dress. Thankfully, the police calmed the rioters -- or rather herded them in a different direction -- so I was able to scoot back to the house without too much trouble.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I fully intended to do the 30 for 30 challenge this month. But THEN I thought it might be better left for next month, when Mr. CP and I will be moving to Colorado. It will make more sense to just keep a few items out to wear while everything else gets packed up. Because I want to do something fun this month, though, I'll be doing something a little different starting next week. So, tune in to find out what I've got planned.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
p.s. This dress has a hole in it. Waaaaaah! I dropped it off at the tailor and they're going to stitch it right back up, thank goodness!</div>

Last Thursday night, Cascade Ice Water hosted an event at the amazing Mane Blow Dry Bar in downtown Seattle. I had never had a blow out before, but I figured they had to be marvelous and magical because I've routinely seen women come walking out of blow dry bars looking like they stepped out of an Herbal Essences commercial. SO, I squealed with delight when I realized that I would finally get to experience a blow out for myself.</div>

I was not disappointed. Look at my curly hair! LOOK! LOOOOOOK! (Excuse the flash... the camera was being temperamental). I'm already planning a Girls' Night return trip for the full treatment!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Our very generous hosts, Cascade Ice, provided us with delicious refreshments for the entirety of the evening. I took advantage of their tasting bar, and sipped on four or five different flavors. My favorite: their low calorie margaritas. They were absolutely delicious. So were the Cosmos. Grapefruit was good, too. Coconut was pretty awesome. Okay, really, there wasn't a bad flavor in the bunch. They were all fantastic. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And perhaps most exciting of all, they had chocolate covered strawberries. Sooooo many chocolate covered strawberries. They also had delicious food on skewers. Side note: can I just tell you how impressed I was at some of the other bloggers' abilities to eat these things daintily? I saw at least two or three people use the skewers in seriously creative ways so they wouldn't have to eat the chicken like a popsicle. Alas, I'm not a skewer ninja, so I embraced my more barbarous instincts, and just ate it like a chicken popsicle. It was glorious.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To Mane, Nunez PR, and Cascade Ice Water: thank you so much for a wonderful evening! I had an absolute blast meeting each and every one of you. To my fellow bloggers in attendance: it was so amazing to meet all of you! Thanks for all the laughs!</div>

I had fully intended to remain strong in the wake of all these Friends and Family, and Mid-Season Sales. For the most part, I managed to control my shopaholic tendencies by avoiding those websites that were both the most tempting, and still out of my price range (I'm looking at you, Kate Spade).<br />
<br />
And then... and THEN Dorothy Perkins happened. I logged on to DP's website intending to add a few things to my already lengthy wish list, only to find that they, too, are in the throes of a Mid-Season Sale. I tried to walk away, folks. Really, I did. Sort of. A little bit. Okay, I <i>meant</i> to walk away and make myself a pot of tea, but somewhere along the way I got confused, added two items to my shopping cart, and purchased them. And <i>then</i> I made tea.<br />
<br />
Which brings me to the guessing game. Which of the items below do you think I ordered? ;)<br />

Sorry for the radio silence lately. The bleakness of winter and spring here in the Pacific Northwest tends to leave me feeling a bit apathetic and sleepy. As a result, I haven't really been wearing anything of note. I've pretty much been living in PJs, yoga pants, and shapeless t-shirts. I want to get better about posting regular OOTD's again, though, and this post is a step in that direction.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wore this outfit to go shopping with Mr. CP over the weekend. It's easily the brightest item in my closet. Eye-searing tangerine isn't something I ever would have been drawn to in the past, in part because I live in a place where pretty much everybody wears variations of black and grey. You can imagine how much I stood out in this number! I felt a bit out of place for a while, until I looked down and realized how happy the color of this dress made <i>me. </i>And at the end of the day, at least in my mind, that's what fashion is about: wearing things that make you feel happy. I had random strangers stopping to compliment me on the dress, so it appears that it was a hit with other people, too. Even Mr. CP said this dress put him in a cheerful mood, so this is my new go to "happy dress."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mr. CP has a conference in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA later this week, so we'll be flying down the coast to sunnier climes. One of my very best friends from high school and college is finishing up his PhD in the area, so I'm going to spend some quality time with him while Mr. CP conferences it up. Mr. CP presented at the same conference a few years ago, and we met some really wonderful people while we were there. Thankfully, they're all going to be in attendance again, so I'm sensing lots of group meals and laughs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm planning on doing a series of posts featuring the outfits I wear while we're in Santa Barbara. I typically like to pack pretty light, so I'll probably be doing lots of mixing and matching. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
*Which brings me to a question for all of you! I really want to take my beautiful tangerine dress with me, but I'm having a hard time figuring out alternative ways to style it. <b>How would you style the dress?*</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Hey everybody! Just a quick post to let you know that the beautiful Loren of <a href="http://frockstock.webstorepowered.com/">Frock Stock</a> graciously invited me to pen a guest post for her <a href="http://frockstock.blogspot.com/">blog</a>. Squeeeeeeal! Loren and I became online friends right around the time I started Charming Pumpkin. On the prowl for plus sized items that fit Frock Stock's aesthetic, Loren contacted me for advice about potential plus sized articles of clothing for her online store, Frock Stock. Many, many wonderful emails later, Loren settled on some of <i>the</i> cutest plus sized clothes I've seen online. It's very Modcloth... only cheaper, and for curvier gals. Frock Stock has an ever-expanding collection of plus sized clothing, so check back regularly for new additions!<br />
<br />
For my guest post, I put together a few outfits using two of my favorite plus size items currently on offer at Frock Stock. The clothes are cute, they're vintage inspired, and best of all, they're reasonably priced. You can find my post <a href="http://frockstock.blogspot.com/2012/03/frock-stock-love.html">here</a>, so pop on over and say hello!<br />
<br />
p.s. Don't forget to check out Frock Stock's accessories. They're adorable!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08936197579730503248noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6415586068037958251.post-57429008799803929992012-03-07T16:16:00.004-08:002012-06-11T18:56:56.591-07:00#4: Wedding Planning Update<div style="text-align: center;">

I'm all, "Hiiiiieee!" Mr. CP is all, *smug face*... or, "Quoi?" I can't decide which.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Sorry I've been an absentee blogger recently. Life has been a bit hectic, so I'm struggling to keep up with everything. Since it's been so long since my last wedding update, I figured I'd go ahead and fill you in on the wedding plans as they currently stand.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have a confession to make. I'm not much of a wedding person. You know how a lot of little girls run around wearing pillow cases over their heads pretending to be brides? I didn't do that. I pretended to be an astronaut. Or, when I was in high school, Indiana Jones. True story. I worked on archaeology digs and learned Latin, both of which are mind-numbingly boring, by the way. But I digress. Growing up, I occasionally talked to my girlfriends (now unofficial bridesmaids!) about what The Guy would be like. In my more emo-tacular moments I even entertained the notion that no one, ever, anywhere in the whole Universe could possibly understand my pain, and wrote surly poetry about it. But on those occasions when I <i>was</i> thinking about The Guy, it was always vague; always unclear. Because, to be honest, getting married was never really a priority for me. I was never against the idea. I just never thought too much about it. If it happened great, and if not great. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In point of fact, I'm fairly certain that just about everybody close to me was shocked when it became clear just how serious things were between Mr. CP and I. The post-engagement conversations I had were essentially a variation on the same theme: "You're getting married? I always assumed that you might find someone to spend your life with, but I never thought you'd get married!" I never found it insulting. On the contrary, all of those conversations were absolutely hilarious. Something in me rejoices when I have the opportunity to surprise people. ;)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Because I never really thought too much about my "future wedding," the process of organizing everything has been interesting. I've learned a few things about myself. What I've learned first and foremost is this: all the trappings of a wedding -- announcements, photographs, the dress, the groom's attire -- are largely irrelevant to me. I mean, sure, they're things I'm thinking about. But they're just details, details that will really only matter for a tiny fraction of one day that is itself just a tiny fraction of the rest of my life. The wedding, at least for me, isn't the point. The marriage is the point. Growing magnificently crotchety, and exceptionally wrinkly with Mr. CP is the point. And focusing on that has allowed me to accept, guilt-free, the fact that we just don't want a big, traditional, fancy pants wedding.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
SO, here's what we've planned so far:</div>

<li>I picked out a dress! Huzzah! It's not white. Double huzzah! It has six -- count 'em, six -- petticoats. Yeah, those will be getting the old heave-ho. </li>
<li>Mr. CP seems to like the idea of a natural colored linen suit. I left it up to him. He could wear board shorts, and an old t-shirt if he wanted to. I'd still claim him. =P</li>
<li>The wedding date has been set for February 6, 2013 on Maui in Hawaii. We're planning on spending the weekish beforehand with our guests. </li>
<li>The guest list is itty bitty. We're currently sitting at a whopping 3 guests.</li>
<li>There won't be a wedding party. Just our guests standing around us on a beach.</li>
<li>Instead of a rehearsal dinner, we will be attending a luau, and gorging ourselves on delicious food. Oh, man, am I going to <i>eat!</i></li>
<li>Our honeymoon: a 7-day cruise that will hit all the Hawaiian islands.</li>
<li>Let me preface this next bit by saying that I have nothing at all against traditional wedding vows. I think that they're beautiful and meaningful, particularly if they're important to the couple in question. They're just not our cup of tea. Looking at the vows typically used by the company we're going through for our ceremony, I can't actually imagine saying them without a) feeling vaguely uncomfortable and b) laughing. Don't get me wrong. I plan to do a lot of laughing during our vows. But they're going to be just that: <i>our vows.</i> We're writing our own. Because we're history geeks -- Mr. CP is about to finish up his PhD in Ancient Roman History, and I spent a couple years working towards a PhD in Early American History -- there will be a lot of bad history jokes. "You're the Julius Caesar to my Brutus" is one option, though arguably not a good one what with the whole betrayal/assassination thing. Maybe, "You're the Julius Caesar to my Brutus, pre-Ides of March" is an option. Ahem. Any and all suggestions are welcome. The more ridiculous the better.</li>
